Up to 54% better PCA cooling by matching airflow to the exact aircraft with the 3500

A lot of PCA units cool to an aircraft category. The ITW GSE 3500 PCA cools to the actual type. Automated Aircraft Type Detection (AATD) reads the approaching aircraft from your VDGS or BMS and sets airflow for that airframe — not an average for “narrow-body.” ITW cites up to 54% better cooling performance and a lower chance of operator error.
That is a subtle but important difference on a hot turnaround. Too little air and the cabin climbs; too much and you waste expensive power and still leave passengers uncomfortable. Stepless VFD regulation on the 3500 supplies the right discharge temperature, never more. Most PCAs are built for peak days that may be only 10–20 days a year, and dump excess capacity the other 80% of the time.
Keep the bridge turning with modular cooling
The 3500 is a truly modular PCA. Interchangeable cooling modules swap in about 20 minutes with no welding at the gate. An inoperative module does not shut the whole unit down. Modules come out even when the PCA is under the PBB. Internal plenum cleaning is quoted at less than 2 hours 30 minutes. Common refrigerant circuit on the 150 and 210. Built in Palmetto, Florida, and Odense, Denmark.
- AATD via VDGS or BMS — exact aircraft type, not category averages
- Optional Intelligent Power Management to cap current and share power with GPUs and chargers
- Power factor > 0.97, cutting line current by up to 20% versus similar-rated PCAs
- Power Share can send leftover capacity to charge eGPUs without a new feeder
- ITW’s “Go Green on Ground” concept: 80–85% less parked-aircraft emissions when a 400 Hz GPU and PCA replace the APU
Why this matters for TEN-T and AFIF gates
EU TEN-T rules push core airports toward PCA so aircraft can shut down APUs. AFIF funding is aimed at the same electrified-gate outcome. The 3500 is EcoGate-enabled, so it is the hub for IPM and type detection rather than a standalone box. Pair it with the 3500 Air Coil and SuperHose to cut leakage and keep cabin air stable all the way to the inlet.
What if one cooling module fails mid-bank?
The rest of the unit keeps running. That is the point of the modular layout: mean time to repair drops because you are swapping a module, not recovering a welded package under a bridge. For fighter hangars that need high-pressure air, see our high-pressure air conditioners (F-35).
